Distinctive Unit Insignia
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a yellow demi-sun, displaying eleven rays, rising from an open silver wreath of oak, all behind a maroon cross bearing a silver star, all below an arched triparted green scroll, the top of the oak wreath between the dovetailed ends of the scroll and inscribed COMPASSION CARE COMMITMENT in silver letters.
Maroon and white are the colors traditionally associated with the Army Medical Department; the cross is a symbol of aid and assistance. The star signifies command and control and reliability. The circular shape of the device implies the concept of totality of dedication to service. Green was the first color used by the Army Medical Department and also exemplifies the strength of the Army and the warrior spirit, which the Command supports. The rising sun symbolizes a new beginning, denoting the activation of the Regional Health Command-Central. The oak wreath symbolizes strength and focus.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the Southern Regional Medical Command on 27 November 2012. It was redesignated effective 1 October 2016, for the US Army Regional Health Command, Central with the symbolism updated. It was redesignated 14 April 2022 for the Medical Readiness Command, West
